The Philippine Research, Education and Government Information Network (PREGINET) participated in the Advanced Routing BGP IPv4/IPv6 Workshop organized by the Trans-Eurasia Information Network 3 (TEIN3) and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Thailand from 13 to 17 August 2012.

The Philippine Research, Education and Government Information Network (PREGINET), the only research and education network in the Philippines, consistently participates in different IPv6 workshops and trainings across the world, to enhance knowledge on the field. Recently, the PREGINET, represented by Science Research Specialist II Alvin M. de Gracia, participated in the Advanced Routing BGP IPv4/IPv6 Workshop at Shinawatra University Bangkok, Viphavadi-Rangsit Road, Thailand from 30 July 2012 to 03 August 2012.


VMMC ties in with PREGINET

Recognizing the importance of telemedicine as a medium for fast transfer of medical information, the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) became the newest partner of the Philippine Research, Education and Government Information Network (PREGINET). “We recognize the use of telehealth, with the help of the DOST people, in the future [activities] without moving from one place to another. We can stay in our respective hospitals or even in our respective homes through live streaming or video conferencing and continue discussing things without the need to travel,” said Dr. June Mendiola, VMMC Ophthalmology Department Head. The VMMC worked closely with the PREGINET Team right after the two (2) PREGINET-assisted telemedicine sessions in 2011 to achieve its physical connection.


DOST-ASTI gets in on World IPv6 Launch

In view of its continuous efforts in promoting Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6), the DOST-Advanced Science and Technology Institute (ASTI) organized the World IPv6 Launch: IPv6 Day Celebration on 06 June 2012. The celebration aims to gather opinions of ISPs, experts, policy makers and other IPv6 enthusiasts, who are working mainly towards IPv6 migration and similar tasks. Further, it seeks to strengthen the network of the Philippine Open Internet Exchange.


PREGINET to assist DOST-SEI in streaming Venus Transit observation

The DOST-Science Education Institute (SEI) partnered with the Philippine Research, Education and Government Information Network (PREGINET) of the DOST-Advanced Science and Technology Institute, to live stream its Venus Transit activities in Bicol from 02 to 07 June 2012. DOST-SEI Director Filma G. Brawner said that the live streaming is aimed at maximizing participation all over the country and increasing the impact of the activity. The live stream of the Venus Transit observation will be seen on the DOST-SEI’s website (www.sei.dost.gov.ph).


DOST participates in ECOSOC’s development agenda

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST), represented by Undersecretary Fortunato T. de la Peña, Chair of the UN Commission on Science and Technology for Development, participated in a joint bureau meeting between the United Nations (UN) Economic and Social Council’s (ECOSOC) Bureau and Chairs of the functional commissions, via PREGINET’s video conferencing facilities, held at the DOST-Advanced Science and Technology Institute last 02 May 2012.

Internet protocol confab, training workshop slated

The Department of Science and Technology – Advanced Science and Technology Institute (DOST-ASTI) will hold an Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) conference and training workshop on April 23 to 27 at the University of the Philippines Cebu College in Lahug, Cebu City.

This is in cooperation with DOST Central Visayas office, DOST-Information and Communication Technology Ofice (ICTO), the National Computer Center and Central Visayas Information Sharing Network.


UPLB taps PREGINET for video streaming solution

The University of the Philippines – Los Baños (UPLB) tapped the Philippines Research, Education and Government Information Network (PREGINET) to provide video streaming solution for the UPLB Annual Graduation Ball and UPLB Graduation Day, which will be held on 20 April 2012 and 28 April 2012, respectively.

Said video streaming solution would give opportunity to bring the graduation ball and graduation ceremony closer to families, friends and alumni, who could not make it to the events, due to venue and budgetary constraints.


Cambodia ties in with TEIN3

04 April 2012 — Cambodia is the newest member of the Trans-Eurasia Information Network 3 (TEIN3), the Pan-Asian research and education network (REN), bringing the number of Asian countries benefiting from it to 17.

The Cambodia REN (CamREN) worked closely with the Vietnam REN (VinaREN), the national research and education network of Vietnam, to achieve its physical connection. The VinaREN arranged a dedicated link from its network in Hanoi to the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC), and provided access to its TEIN3 connection.
