PREGINET ensures audience participation in a forum on Social and Institutional Change

The Philippine Research, Education and Government Information Network (PREGINET) ensured that audiences, including experts, from University of the Philippines (UP) campuses across the nation, could participate over the Internet, in an event titled, “Understanding Complex Dynamical Systems: A Forum on Social and Institutional Change,” which was organized by the UP Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs last 20 September 2013 at the National Institute of Physics Auditorium, National Science Complex, UP Diliman, Quezon City.


PREGINET makes Ombudsman’s 1st Public Governance Forum available on the Internet

The use of information and communications technology for distance education evidently makes access to technology an enabling or disabling factor, according to Janice N. Burn and Nalinee Thongprasert, authors of Seven Major Challenges for e-Learning in Developing Countries. Indeed, this access relies on the quality and reliability of connections of educational institutions. In the Philippine scenario, students in rural areas do not have access or have limited access to the Internet, due to infrastructural problems.

DOST-ASTI launches high-capacity, Pan-Asian TEIN4 research network

The Advanced Science and Technology Institute (ASTI), an attached research and development agency of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) launched the Trans-Eurasia Information Network 4 (TEIN4) on 14 June 2013 at the National Computer Center. The Philippines, via the Philippine Research, Education and Government Information Network (PREGINET) managed by the DOST-ASTI, has a 155Mbps direct connectivity to TEIN4, enabling closer collaboration among academicians and researchers around the world.


PREGINET assists live streaming of UPLB’s Bantay Halalan 2013

The University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) tapped the Philippine Research, Education and Government Information Network (PREGINET) once again for the live streaming of their Bantay Halalan 2013. During national elections, Bantay Halalan is aired over Radyo DZLB, which is a community radio station managed by the Department of Development Broadcasting and Telecommunications (DDBT) of the College of Development Communication.

UPOU HQ connects to PREGINET

The University of the Philippines – Open University (UPOU) Headquarters in Los Baños, Laguna is the newest academic institution to join the only Research and Education Network (REN) in the Philippines. On 19 October 2012, the Philippine Research, Education and Government Information Network (PREGINET) Operations Team finished the connection of the UPOU Headquarters to the PREGINET. Network and Wi-Fi installation, configuration, and testing of said campus began first week of October 2012.

PCMC, VMMC share best practices via telementoring

Real-time information dissemination among two distant parties could be just a piece of cake. Likewise, on how feasible it is to conduct training and facilitate learning among hospitals through telementoring with the assistance of the Philippine Research, Education and Government Information Network (PREGINET). Telementoring, according to the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the US Department of Health and Human Services, is the process of monitoring or providing directions from a distance by using audio, video, and other telecommunications and electronic information processing technologies.
