PREGINET takes part in the 8th Academic Congress of the Asian Shoulder Association

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) – Advanced Science and Technology Institute’s (ASTI’s) Philippine Research, Education and Government Information Network (PREGINET) team took part in the 8th Academic Congress of the Asian Shoulder Association (ACASA) on 25-26 November 2014 in Cebu.

The two-day academic congress was hosted by the University of Santo Tomas, headed by Dr. Alberto Ma. V. Molano, President of the Philippine Shoulder Society and one of the organizers of ACASA. It was attended by Dr. Gilles Walch, world-renowned shoulder surgeon; Dr. Laurent Lafosse, Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur and CEO and Company Group Chairman of Clinique Générale d’Annecy; and Professor Katsuya Nobuhara, Director of Nobuhara Hospital and Institute of Biomechanics of Japan, who all served as presidential speakers for said event. Aside from the presidential speakers, numerous lecturers also participated in the event and provided discussions and presentations about shoulder-related researches and surgeries. Live surgical demonstrations were also performed.

PREGINET, known for its technical expertise on videoconferencing and live streaming, was tapped by the organizers of ACASA to provide technical assistance in the conduct of live surgical demonstrations. With its regular collaboration with various hospitals, PREGINET has become highly skilled in providing technical support in such activities.

Dr. Molano, being the Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Santo Tomas Hospital, is very active in participating and organizing arthroscopic and cadaveric workshops of the shoulder, knee and hip and live-interactive surgery workshops, joint replacement cadaveric workshops, to train Filipino and foreign Orthopaedic Surgeons from the ASEAN region. He expressed his gratitude to the PREGINET team for providing very clear audiovisual output of the operating room in Cebu Doctors Hospital and in the Radisson Blu Hotel. He also added, “I was very glad to get involved and worked with Mr. Lara’s team. Their team was very efficient.”

Moreover, Dr. Molano said that he would surely recommend the PREGINET team to other organizations who wish to organize the same event. He also expressed his intention to collaborate with PREGINET for another telemedicine event a few years from now.
