DSC_0038 - CopyThe Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Advanced Science and Technology Institute (ASTI) thru the Philippine Research, Education and Government Information Network (PREGINET), represented by Science Research Specialist (SRS) II Alvin M. de Gracia and SRS II Mark Henry N. Quilala, participated in the Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) Lecture on OneSeg Service Experimental System on 17 March 2014 at PLDT Convergent Technologies Center, Ateneo de Manila University.

The lecture included a live demonstration of OneSeg transmission that was facilitated by OKI Electric Industry Co., Ltd, with assistance from the DOST-ASTI and the DOST-Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Office. The DOST-ICT Office is the lead government agency in Asia Pacific Telecommunity, which funds the OneSeg Service Experimental System.

The Ateneo IPTV OneSeg transmission, which is intended for disaster and emergency broadcasting, is an Integrated Services Digital Broadcast-Terrestrial (ISDB)-T compliant, the Digital Terrestrial Television Standard adopted by the Philippines. To enhance its services and feed timely, relevant and significant multimedia content on T-information (i.e., news, weather, traffic, among others), the Ateneo IPTV Testbed with OneSeg ISDB-T Capability, plug applications and live encoding architecture, as an integration of voice, video and data services, functions as a resilient communication system through incorporation of disaster management practices on and off-site.

The handover ceremonies, with the DOST-ICTO and the DOST-ASTI, have been scheduled in June 2014.
